While fleeing from police, two boys in a stolen Honda early Sunday morning crashed into a chain-link fence at Wilson High School in Santa Clara, police said.
The crash occurred after the driver led officers on a chase through the city starting around 3:30 a.m. near the Alviso border, where the car — a 1991 white Honda Accord that was reported missing at 1 a.m. — was first spotted, said Santa Clara police Capt. Wahid Kazem.
The chase resulted in the driver losing control of the Accord and crashing it into a fence before striking a tree along the high school’s soccer field, Kazem said.
The driver was treated for a broken leg at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center while the passenger was unhurt, said Kazem.
The driver was charged with grand theft auto and evading police. He was released to his mother’s custody because of his injury. The passenger was charged with possession of stolen property, referring to the car, and was booked into juvenile hall, Kazem said.
