The Santa Cruz County coroner’s office has identified a man killed in a crash on state Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains late last week as 60-year-old Duane Carpenter.
Carpenter, a Santa Cruz man, died when his 1988 Ford Ranger crashed into a 1994 Toyota 4Runner at about 9:45 a.m. Friday on Highway 17 at Laurel Road north of Scotts Valley.
Carpenter was driving south approaching Laurel Road when he lost control of his car and collided with an approaching Toyota 4Runner driven by a 60-year-old Boulder Creek woman, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Hugh Holden.
The woman was transported to Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz and received treatment for minor injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Holden said roadway conditions were wet.
