A Santa Clara County sheriff’s captain and deputy will drink before getting behind the wheel in Santa Clara today to demonstrate the impact of driving under the influence.
They will begin drinking at about 9:30 a.m. and then attempt to drive through different obstacle courses to convey the effect alcohol has on a motorist’s driving ability and decision-making process.
The captain and deputy will be provided transportation following the demonstration.
A news conference will be held prior to the demonstration with a keynote address by Milpitas police Chief Dennis Graham. District Attorney Dolores Carr will discuss the legal consequences of driving under the influence and a DUI victim will also speak.
The event will be held in the east parking lot of Great America park on Centennial Boulevard at Tasman Drive.
