Firefighters have contained a brush fire that burned up to 30 acres near state Highway 87 in San Jose and injured two firefighters this afternoon, fire Capt. Scott Kouns said.

The fire was reported at about 2:20 p.m. on Communication Hill near Curtner Avenue.

One firefighter suffered a dislocated knee and another experienced heat exhaustion. Both were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The fire burned some trees and an outbuilding, and was contained at 4:03 p.m., according to Kouns.

California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Kroncke said one lane of northbound Highway 87 is closed because smoke from the fire is affecting visibility. The lane is expected to open by 6 p.m.

Traffic is slow in the area, but the smoke has dissipated, Kouns said.

Cal Fire, Central Fire and the Milpitas Fire Department assisted.
