Man dies from injuries following house fire

A 60-year-old old man who was one of six victims injured in a fire in San Jose Friday night succumbed to his injuries today, according to fire department officials.

The blaze was reported shortly before 4 p.m. at a single-story home on Brownstone Court and declared under control at about 4:40 p.m.

The man was transported, along with five others, to Valley Medical Center for smoke inhalation, heat exposure and potentially burns, but the exact cause of his death has not been determined, according to fire officials. The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office has not released his identity.

Fire Capt. Chuck Rangel said at least one other victim was still in the hospital.

The victims were two disabled occupants, their caretaker, two neighbors who stopped by to help, along with a third person that was passing through the neighborhood.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The home sustained heavy smoke and fire damage, Rangel said.
