Firefighters respond to gas leak

Firefighters responded this afternoon to a gas leak at a home in San Jose, a fire department spokesman said.

The gas leak was reported at 1:07 p.m. at a home located at 15427 Lone Hill Road, fire Capt. Chuck Rangel said.

No injuries were reported. There are five homes in the area, but only one was occupied and it was evacuated, Rangel said.

It appears a person working in the front yard of that house ruptured a gas line with a hand tool, Rangel said.

The gas line is about three-quarters of an inch in size and was still actively leaking gas at about 2 p.m., Rangel said.

A hazardous materials team is assisting.

The gas leak prompted the closure of Lone Hill Road from Los Gatos Almaden Road to Laurinda Drive.
