An unattended candle destroyed a house garage in Palo Alto this morning, according to the fire department.
A two-alarm fire was reported around 8:10 a.m. in the garage of a home on the 800 block of Loma Verde. Firefighters had the fire under control by 11 a.m.
Firefighters fought the fire from outside and contained it to the garage. It was a “stubborn” fire, however, and crews were not able to save the garage in time.
The garage, which was detached from the home, had an extremely heavy load and was used for storage, the fire department said. It also served as a living unit.
One resident was transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure.
