Police to conduct sobriety checkpoint on Friday

Martinez police will conduct a driving under the influence and driver’s license checkpoint in Martinez on Friday in an effort to identify offenders and get them off the street as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.

Police will run the checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. in the 3700 block of Alhambra Avenue during which every vehicle may be checked depending on traffic volume and weather conditions. Drivers who are found to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested, police said.

The police department is encouraging the public to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
