Police have identified a young man killed in an apparent gang-related shooting in Salinas on Friday evening.
Jaime Esteban Guerrero, a 20-year-old Seaside resident, and another man, age 21, were shot at about 7:15 p.m. Friday while standing near a car in the 100 block of Keys Street, according to police.
Two men approached the victims, and at least one pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at the victims, police said.
Both suspects then ran away and were last seen headed north on Paloma Avenue.
Responding officers found the victims lying in the street.
Guerrero had been shot in the upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim had been shot twice in the upper torso and was taken to a Bay Area hospital where he is in serious condition, according to police.
It is unclear whether any words were exchanged between the victims and the suspects prior to the shooting.
Police are investigating the murder as gang-related, although they said it was not immediately clear whether the victims were affiliated with any gangs.
The suspects are described as Hispanic men between 18 and 23 years old. The first suspect was tall and thin, and the second suspect was shorter and heavyset.
