The city manager of Dallas, Texas, will visit San Jose Thursday to meet with Police Chief Rob Davis, who is one of six finalists to head the Dallas Police Department.
Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm will meet with Davis in the morning to observe him in his own environment, Dallas city spokesman Frank Librio said. Later in the day, Suhm will meet with other city officials and community leaders to get a well-rounded view of what Davis has done for San Jose, he said.
On March 31, Davis traveled to Dallas for formal interviews with Suhm and other city officials, police association representatives, a panel of residents and local executives.
This will be Suhm’s third trip in the search to find a replacement for David Kunkle, who is retiring at the end of April after six years as Dallas’ police chief. The search began in February and a decision will be announced by the end of the month.
The other finalists are Police Chief Art Acevedo of Austin, Texas; Police Chief Robert Crump White of Louisville, Ky.; and three internal finalists, David Brown, Daniel Garcia, and Floyd Simpson.
San Jose police spokesman Sgt. Ronnie Lopez confirmed that city officials are preparing for Suhm’s visit but said he did not have additional details.
