One motorist was arrested for driving under the influence during a checkpoint in Martinez on Saturday night during which nearly 600 vehicles passed through, according to the Police Department.
The checkpoint was conducted in the 3700 block of Alhambra Avenue, according to police.
Of the 592 vehicles that traveled through the checkpoint, in addition to the drunken driver, one motorist was cited for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. Officers also cited oneb driver for driving on a suspended license, two drivers for being an unlicensed driver, and nine motorists for driving without a license. One pedestrian was arrested for public intoxication.
The Police Department funded the operation with a grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
