Mountain View police have arrested a transient suspected of attacking and robbing a 74-year-old man Wednesday evening, police said.

Mountain View firefighters and paramedics responded to a report at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday of an elderly man who was injured at a CVS store at 2630 W. El Camino Real.

They determined the man had been the victim of a robbery and called police to investigate.

The victim, a transient, told officers he was walking from the San Antonio Inn toward the CVS store when he was struck in the back of the head, police said. He said he lost consciousness and couldn’t recall what happened next.

The victim was taken to a hospital with a fractured skull, police said.

Witnesses told police a man had punched the victim in the back of the head, knocked him down, and continued punching him a few more times before taking his wallet.

Officers found a man matching the description given by witnesses walking through the San Antonio Shopping Center near where the attack happened. He had blood on him and was carrying bloody money, police said.

The officers arrested the suspect, also a transient, and identified him as 32-year-old David Harris. He was booked him into Santa Clara County’s main jail.
