Police investigate apparent gang-related shooting

Gilroy police are investigating an apparent gang-related shooting near several businesses in the city this morning.

Officers responded to reports of the non-injury shooting in the area of Leavesley and Murray roads at about 10:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, they noticed a car that matched the description witnesses had provided, police said. The occupants told police two pedestrians were hurling rocks at their car as they were driving on Murray Road. They said they decided to pull into a parking lot on the east side of Murray Road, but were suddenly showered with bullets, police said.

The car had damage indicating it had been struck by bullets and rocks, police said. A single bullet also struck the windshield of another car that was not involved in the incident.

The parking lot is bordered by a convenience store, a fast food restaurant and a motel, however no one was injured in the shooting, police said.

A description of the suspect or suspects was not immediately available.
