A 69-year-old woman suffered a heart attack while driving and died before crashing this morning on state Highway 183 in unincorporated Monterey County near Salinas, according to the coroner’s office.
The crash occurred at about 7 a.m. on Highway 183 near Cooper Road.
An autopsy revealed the victim, identified as Patricia Ann Pettit, had suffered a heart attack and died prior to losing control of her car, according to the coroner’s office.
Pettit, a Seaside resident, was found dead behind the wheel by emergency crews who responded to the crash.
