Two men die in early morning crash

Two men died in a rollover crash in downtown Gilroy early this morning, police said.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. near Sixth and Alexander streets.

The victims, whose names haven’t been released, were pronounced dead at the scene after officers found one ejected from the car and the other inside, police said.

A third occupant, who initially ran away, was located nearby and taken by helicopter to a local trauma center, where he is being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Prior to the crash, an officer on foot patrol downtown noticed a white car speeding in the area, police said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Investigators are trying to determine if drugs and or alcohol were involved.
