Five people were arrested this afternoon in connection with the shooting of a check-cashing store employee in San Jose during a robbery of the business, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded to the robbery and shooting at a Check ‘n Go store at 461 Blossom Hill Road at about 12:05 p.m., police Officer Jose Garcia said.

Five men were involved, and two men entered the store with guns and demanded money, Garcia said. During the robbery, one suspect shot the employee, a 23-year-old San Jose man.

The suspects then drove off with an undetermined amount of cash.

A patrol unit stopped their car near Jackson Avenue off of Interstate Highway 680, Garcia said. The suspects took off running in different directions, but they were all detained a short time later, he said.

The victim suffered a non-life threatening injury to an upper extremity, Garcia said. Another employee, a 27-year-old woman, was not harmed.

Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing the men who were arrested to determine the extent of their involvement in the robbery and shooting, Garcia said.

Police are also investigating whether others were involved and what exactly was taken from the store.
