Two teenage boys on probation were arrested in Salinas Wednesday on suspicion of attempted burglary, according to police.
A resident at a home in the 1600 block of Atherton Way called police around 10:10 a.m. Wednesday and reported that two boys had knocked on the door and when no one answered, they tried to enter through the rear sliding door. They ran away upon seeing the resident inside, according to police.
Arriving officers saw the suspects, ages 16 and 17, running in the area and tried to apprehend them.
They arrested the 16-year-old without incident, but had to establish a perimeter and seek assistance from allied agencies to track down the 17-year-old. He was eventually found hiding in the bathroom of a home in the 1500 block of Los Altos Way, police said.
The boys were booked into Monterey County juvenile hall on charges of attempted burglary, resisting arrest, unlawful entry into a residence, and violation of juvenile probation.
