A Watsonville man was killed in a crash on southbound U.S. Highway 101 south of Gilroy early this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 62-year-old man was driving a Ford Escape north of Betabel Road when, for an unknown reason, he jerked his car to the right and lost control, CHP officials said.
The Ford rolled off the roadway and onto its roof.
CHP officers responded and pronounced the man dead at 1:19 a.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. It is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
