A 15-year-old Watsonville boy was arrested on suspicion of stabbing a 31-year-old man in Santa Cruz this afternoon, according to police.
Officers responded at about 12:25 p.m. to a report of a stabbing in the 300 block of Encinal Street.
Witnesses told officers the victim was driving and the suspect was walking on the street when they began arguing, though it wasn’t immediately clear who instigated the argument or what it was about, police spokesman Zach Friend said.
The victim stopped the car and confronted the suspect, at which point the suspect allegedly stabbed him with a knife, Friend said.
The suspect then fled to a nearby building, where officers found him and arrested him without incident.
Officers were able to recover the knife the suspect used. The victim was transported to a trauma center, where he remained late this afternoon in stable condition, Friend said.
The stabbing does not appear to be gang-related, Friend said.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the investigations unit of the Police Department at (831) 420-5820 or the anonymous tip line at 831-420-5995.
