An ammonia leak at a garlic company in south Gilroy prompted a brief emergency response this morning, a Cal Fire Morgan Hill communications officer said.
The leak was reported at 10:27 a.m. inside a room at Christopher Ranch at 305 Bloomfield Ave., communications officer Charles Snyder said.
Snyder said Cal Fire crews responded as a safety measure, but that an onsite emergency response team at the facility sealed the room and contained the nearly 15 pounds of ammonia that had leaked by 12:30 p.m.
Some people in the immediate area were evacuated, but no injuries were reported, Snyder said.
“Everything went well according to their plan,” he said.
Snyder said he didn’t know what had caused the leak.
