PG&E crews are working to restore power to customers in San Mateo who experienced an outage this morning after seagulls hit power wires, a spokesman said.
The outage was reported around 7:15 a.m. in the area of U.S. Highway 101 at Kehoe Avenue, PG&E spokesman Matt Nauman said.
The outage initially left about 7,400 customers in the dark, Nauman said. As of 9:30 a.m., power had been restored to all but 73 customers.
Nauman said the California Highway Patrol planned to close Highway 101 in both directions so that PG&E crews could repair the wires.
The closure was expected to last until about noon.
Caltrans was also assisting.
