Firefighters are responding to a three-alarm vegetation fire that burned about seven acres on a hill near San Jose this afternoon, a San Jose Fire Department spokesman said.

The fire was reported at 1:54 p.m. at 14574 Clayton Road, fire Capt. Chuck Rangel said. It had been contained as of 3:25 p.m. but had not yet been controlled, Rangel said.

The blaze started on steep terrain and moved uphill, initially threatening two homes, he said.

A man was evacuated from one of the homes and no one was inside the second home, Rangel said.

No injuries have been reported.

About 60 San Jose firefighters responded to the fire. Cal Fire also responded.
