Stabbing victim identified, suspect still at large

San Jose police today identified a man who was stabbed to death during a Cinco de Mayo celebration Wednesday night.

Demetrius Campbell, a 20-year-old San Jose resident, was stabbed around 11:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Flintcrest Drive, according to police.

According to detectives, just prior to the stabbing, Campbell and the suspect were involved in a verbal altercation at a Cinco de Mayo barbecue.

Campbell was taken to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, where he was pronounced dead at 12:01 a.m.

The person responsible for the stabbing fled the scene and remains at-large, police said. As of this evening, police did not have a description of the suspect.

Campbell’s death marks the city’s 16th homicide of 2011.
