Santa Clara County officials are holding a ceremony today to celebrate the opening of a community center for current and former foster youth.
The center, called The Hub, will be led and organized by the youth and will serve as a gathering spot for foster youth between the ages of 15 and 24.
The purpose of the center is to support the nearly 125 of the county’s 1,000 foster youth who are freed from the system after reaching the age of 18 and are thrown into adulthood overnight.
At The Hub, foster youth will have access to community involvement and leadership opportunities. They will be connected with about 15 county staff and community members who will give them resources for housing, education, employment and wellness, as well as drop-in and appointment services.
The grand opening ceremony will be held at The Hub, located at 2248 N. First St., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
