A family of six in Cupertino not only lost their house in a blaze this morning, they also lost two kittens.

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at a home in the 800 block of Rose Blossom Drive at about 8:35 a.m., according to officials.

They had the fire under control an hour later, but by then it had destroyed the whole house and spread to the roof of a neighboring house, as well as that of a condo unit on another street, Santa Clara County arson investigator Jeremy Davis said.

The fire appears to have originated in the garage, but the cause had not been determined today, he said.

No one was home when the fire started, Davis said.

The family, which includes four children ages 1, 3, 9 and 10, were displaced and will live with relatives.

Two firefighters were injured in the fire, but both were treated at a hospital and released. One suffered a cut on his hand, and the other was bitten by the family’s dog in the backyard.

The dog was evacuated and not harmed.

The family’s kittens, however, were not so lucky, as both perished in the fire, Davis said.
