Police arrested two men on suspicion of burglarizing four vehicles and tampering with two others in Gilroy early this morning.

A resident called police around 1:15 a.m. and reported a burglary in progress at a home in the 900 block of Monticelli Court, according to police.

Two men dressed in black clothing and gloves were on the front porch of the home, but they ran away when they saw the resident, police said.

Officers responded and found two people who matched the description of the suspects on Padova Drive.

When they saw the officer, both ran away into side yards, according to police. Officers eventually found them hiding in bushes and arrested them.

The suspects have been identified as Christopher Jacobs, 22, and Henry Loyd, 18. They were booked into Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of burglary, vehicle tampering and conspiracy. Both are residents of Gilroy.

Officers recovered four burglarized vehicles in the area as well as two cars that had apparently been tampered with, in addition to stolen property that was returned to the victims, police said.

Police said there has been an increase in auto burglaries over the past several months. Residents should remove valuables from their vehicles, ensure that their windows are closed and lock the vehicle doors, according to police.
