Police are asking residents of a south San Jose neighborhood to shelter in place this morning as they search for an armed carjacking suspect.

Residents of the neighborhood near Cas Drive and Ezie Street are being asked to stay inside their homes.

The suspect is being sought by Milpitas police, who pursued him to the area of Seven Trees Boulevard and Capitol Expressway, where, at about 8:40 a.m., he crashed and then got out of the car and fled on foot, police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.

He has been hiding ever since, and police have shut down the neighborhood to search for him, Dwyer said.

“He’s believed to be armed with a handgun,” Dwyer said.

The suspect was driving a silver BMW, he said.

No injuries have been reported.
