A gas line rupture prompted a brief shelter-in-place order for businesses along Scott Boulevard in Santa Clara this morning.
At about 9 a.m., city workers struck a one-inch gas line as they were installing a recycled water supply line, causing gas to escape, Santa Clara Deputy Fire Chief William Kelly said.
Firefighters responded and ordered businesses along Scott Boulevard to shelter in place until about 10:20 a.m., when PG&E crews shut off the gas.
“This happens occasionally,” Kelly said of the gas line rupture. “Luckily it wasn’t a large-scale incident.”
