Cyclist struck by SUV on San Tomas Expressway

A bicyclist suffered major injuries when he was struck by an SUV in San Jose this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred at 12:17 p.m. at the intersection of San Tomas Expressway and Benton Street, CHP Sgt. John Carman said.

Carman said a blue Toyota Highlander struck a male cyclist. He was taken by ambulance to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

The driver of the vehicle did stop, he said.

At least one southbound lane of San Tomas Expressway is blocked as officers investigate.
