Police arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of stabbing another man to death at a Capitola home late Sunday night.
Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a home in the 3200 block of Virgil Lane around 10:45 p.m., Capitola police Chief Mike Card said.
There, they found a 36-year-old man suffering from at least one stab wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the victim is a Santa Cruz resident but have not yet released his name.
Card identified the suspect in the murder as Marcos Chavez. He said the stabbing appears to have occurred after a fight between the two, but said it is unclear how they knew each other.
“Information is still being developed,” Card said. “There are a bunch of investigators working on the case.”
Chavez was arrested at the house, where he was renting a room, and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on a murder charge.
The stabbing marks the second homicide in Capitola this year.
