Pedestrian fatally struck by car Tuesday identified

The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office has identified 75-year-old Purita Adona as the woman who was fatally struck by a vehicle in San Jose on Tuesday night.

Adona, a San Jose resident, was struck around 9 p.m. Tuesday by a 1997 Toyota Camry as she was attempting to cross East Capitol Expressway just south of Cunningham Avenue, according to police.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Camry, a 19-year-old woman, cooperated with officers and showed no initial signs of intoxication.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
