Police investigate shots fired into occupied home

Police are looking for a suspect who fired into an occupied home in Watsonville Thursday night, where three bullets passed within inches of a 4- and 5-year old as they were sleeping.

When officers arrived around 11:10 p.m., they found 12 bullet holes in the front of the Holly Drive home, according to police.

Numerous people were inside the home at the time, including the two small children who were asleep on a bunk bed in a bedroom in front of the house, police said.

A balled-up sweatshirt on the corner of the bed was the only thing the bullets struck, police said.

The suspect or suspects involved have not yet been located.

Officers had initially responded to the area minutes earlier on a report of shots fired near Freedom Boulevard and Miles Lane. They did not locate any victims or property damage at that location.

Detectives are investigating the case and ask anyone with information to call the police tip line at (831) 768-3544 or the investigations bureau at (831) 768-3352.
