A kitchen fire at a San Jose home this morning caused an estimated $100,000 in damage and displaced two people, a fire spokesman said.
The one-alarm fire was reported at 10:36 a.m. at a two-story house located at 943 Cape George Place, fire Capt. Anthony Melendrez said.
A 33-year-old woman was taking a shower when she heard the smoke detector go off, he said. She realized the alarm was alerting her to smoke in the kitchen downstairs, where she noticed there was also fire in the dishwasher area, Melendrez said.
Firefighters confined the blaze to the first level of the house and had it under control at 11:15 a.m.
The woman and her 64-year-old husband were not injured, but have been temporarily displaced. The American Red Cross was notified of the fire, Melendrez said.
The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.
