San Mateo County Medical Center CEO Sang-ick Chang will begin a new position as chief medical officer for the Alameda County Medical Center at the end of March, a spokeswoman said today.
Chang plans to focus on clinical care and public service at the Alameda County Medical Center, according to San Mateo County Health Department spokeswoman Beverly Thames. While in San Mateo County, he served as medical director of ambulatory services before becoming CEO.
“Dr. Chang served our Medical Center with compassion and a true desire to serve people in need,” Board of Supervisors President Mark Church said in a prepared statement.
“He helped maintain an excellent level of service for San Mateo County residents and both his colleagues and patients will miss him,” Church said.
Susan Ehrlich, the current chief medical officer for the San Mateo County medical center, will serve as interim CEO following Chang’s departure from the position March 20.
“San Mateo (County) Medical Center is a strong and essential resource to the entire San Mateo community and is especially important during these uncertain and difficult economic times,” Ehrlich said in a prepared statement.
“I am honored by this appointment and look forward to working with our talented staff to use our resources most efficiently in order to provide the highest quality care to our patients,” she said.
