Mountain View police are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl at a park three weeks ago.
On Friday, the victim reported to police that she was assaulted at Whisman Park, located at 310 Easy St., sometime between Sept. 26 and 28, according to police.
She told police that she was cutting through the park on her way home after running on the Stevens Creek Trail around 6:15 p.m.
She said she stopped at a fountain for a drink of water when someone grabbed her from behind and pulled her into a women’s bathroom nearby, according to police.
She told police that inside the bathroom, one man held her against a wall while another man groped her. They let her go when they heard voices outside the bathroom.
The victim ran home and was unharmed, police said.
She did not report the assault immediately for various reasons, police said, adding that it is not uncommon for victims to delay reporting a sexual assault.
Neither of the suspects has been identified.
The first suspect was described as a white man in his early 20s. He had black hair and was of medium height and build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The second suspect was described as a Hispanic man, also in his 20s, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. He was also of medium height and build.
Police said the assault appears to be an isolated incident, but are still encouraging residents to be aware of their surroundings in the areas of Whisman Park and nearby Stevens Creek Trail.
Residents should refrain from visiting the park or trail after sunset, and from walking or running alone. Residents are encouraged to always carry a cell phone with them.
