California Highway Patrol officers arrested a 23-year-old man this morning on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing a crash on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose that seriously injured him and another occupant in the car.
Aaron Paul Rivera Bolosan, 23, of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing his 2007 Honda Civic head-on into a tree off of Highway 101 south of Blossom Hill Road at about 3:35 a.m., CHP Officer Tiffany Lopez said.
It is unknown how fast he was going, but he made a right on the freeway “due to intoxication” and caused the Honda to go out of control, Lopez said.
Firefighters arrived to find the Honda wrapped around a tree off the side of the highway with three people trapped inside, fire Capt. Rob Brown said.
It took an hour and 40 minutes to get all three victims out of the car. Bolosan and the front seat passenger were taken to Regional Medical Center of San Jose.
Bolosan had a broken leg and other injuries, Lopez said. His front seat passenger, a 23-year-old woman from San Jose, suffered life-threatening injuries, including broken legs and torso trauma.
The third passenger, a 21-year-old San Jose woman who was sitting in the back, suffered only minor injuries and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center after complaining about pain in her torso.
All three were wearing their seat belts, Lopez said.
A total of 22 firefighters assisted in the response to the crash, Brown said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the CHP.
