A woman who died Thursday morning in a solo-vehicle crash in San Jose has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as Sunnyvale resident Elizabeth Kaplan.

The crash happened shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of North First Street and Tasman Drive, according to police.

Kaplan, 62, was driving a Kia Sedona south on North First Street, and as she turned left onto Tasman Drive, she apparently lost control of her car, sideswiped a utility pole and crashed into a tree, police said.

Officers found her suffering from injuries that initially did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

She was transported to Valley Medical Center, where she died as a result of her injuries shortly after 11 a.m.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call Detective Scherry at (408) 277-4654.
