A man was stabbed in the parking lot of the American Legion hall in Santa Clara on Thursday night, where a bingo event was being held, a police spokesman said.

At about 10:50 p.m., the victim walked out of the building, located at 2120 Walsh Ave., and was approached by two men in the parking lot, police Lt. Matt Hogan said.

The men tried to rob the victim, and in the course of the robbery, one of the suspects stabbed the victim, Hogan said.

Officers responded and found the victim with a single upper body stab wound. Paramedics transported the man to a hospital. Hogan said he is expected to survive his injury.

The suspects fled with the victim’s property before officers arrived and both remain at-large, Hogan said.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call the police investigations division at (408) 615-4849.
