One lane of state Highway 17 in Santa Cruz has been reopened following a fatal crash this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash, involving two vehicles, was reported at about 3:10 p.m. on southbound Highway 17 near state Highway 1, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.
One person died in the crash, Van Eckhardt said. The victim is a 30-year-old woman from Santa Cruz.
As of 4:30 p.m., traffic on southbound Highway 17 was being diverted to northbound Highway 1 while officers investigated the crash.
The fast lane was reopened at about 5:10 p.m. Both lanes had been closed immediately following the crash.
