A San Jose woman is facing murder charges for allegedly killing her housemate’s 65-year-old mother with a machete-type weapon on Friday.

Sagal Mohamod Sadiq, 40, will be arraigned on Thursday afternoon on one count of homicide with a use of a deadly weapon enhancement in connection with the death of Yvonne Marie Kirk, according to Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Lisa McCrary.

Around 11 p.m. on Friday, police received a call from a home in the 1900 block of Johnston Avenue. When officers arrived, they found two women who had apparently been physically attacked.

Kirk, who was from San Jose, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sadiq was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she was treated and released, police said.

Authorities later classified Sadiq as a suspect in the case, and she was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of homicide, where she remains in custody today.

Police said the relationship between Sadiq and Kirk, as well as the motive for the homicide, remains under investigation.

Investigators recovered the machete-type weapon believed to have been used in the murder.
