Morgan Hill police are encouraging residents today to be aware of their surroundings when walking to their car at night or in dark areas after a 46-year-old San Martin woman was attacked with a stun gun last week.

Police received report of the incident at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday from a Safeway at 235 Tennant Station.

The woman told officers that she was attacked in a Safeway parking lot by a man who had gotten into her car through an unlocked rear door, according to police.

The woman said the suspect hit her with his fist then used a stun gun on the back of her neck and head, according to police.

A passerby who heard the woman screaming pulled up next to her car, causing the suspect to become startled and leave the car, fleeing in the direction of a nearby theater.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s, standing 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a dark hat or hood, dark pants and dark shirt.

A similar incident occurred that day at about 11 p.m. involving a 36-year-old local woman who reported that she had been followed to her car in a Safeway parking lot at 840 E. Dunne Ave., police said.

The woman said when she tried to increase her pace the suspect did the same. When she got into her car, the suspect attempted to open the driver’s side door but was not able to and the woman escaped unharmed.

She described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his late 20s to early 30s, standing at about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds, with dark hair, dark eyes and wearing a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding either of these incidents to contact Detective Beilmann at (408) 779-2101 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 947-STOP.
