The Santa Clara Family Health Foundation will present a children’s health symposium in San Jose on May 22 with renowned activist Marian Wright Edelman.
The second annual Symposium on the Status of Children’s Health in Santa Clara County will highlight health disparities and issues among children in the county and bring together public, private and nonprofit sectors to help increase children’s overall health and well-being.
In her keynote speech, Edelman will discuss children’s poverty levels, said Kathleen King, executive director of the foundation. Edelman is founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund, a national organization based in Washington, D.C., that focuses on children’s issues.
“Mrs. Edelman is the rock star of the importance of keeping children healthy and in school and safe,” King said. “She truly is an amazing speaker and we are lucky to get her.”
Representatives from the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health and Kaiser Permanente will also give presentations.
The symposium will take place on May 22, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Center for Employment Training’s Sobrato Center, 701 Vine St., San Jose.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a business card for a raffle drawing.
The event is free for students and $40 for the general public. To register, visitwww.statusonchildrenshealth2.eventbrite.com.
