A man was found dead inside a car that had apparently driven off a cliff at Grizzly Park Boulevard in Oakland on Friday afternoon, police said today.
The California Highway Patrol and Oakland Fire Department responded to the incident at about 1:30 p.m.
The man was seen driving a four-door sedan off the roadway, CHP Officer Sam Morgan said. Witnesses reportedly said the man appeared to have deliberately driven off the cliff.
Physical evidence recovered at the scene supported the notion that the act may have been deliberate, Morgan said.
Morgan could not confirm whether the vehicle belonged to the driver.
The CHP responded to the incident in lieu of the Oakland Police Department, whose officers were at the funeral for the four officers killed by a wanted parolee last week.
