Middle and high school students from seven Santa Clara County schools are gathering at San Jose’s Kelley Park today for a history competition related to the theme “The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies.”
The “History Day Competition,” an educational program co-sponsored by the Santa Clara County Office of Education, serves to improve the teaching and learning of history in the county and will allow students to explore historical issues, ideas, people and events in local and world history.
Categories that will be featured in the competition include traditional historical papers, dramatic presentations, artistic exhibits, multimedia documentaries and historical Web sites.
There will also be a poster-making competition for fourth and fifth graders.
Winners will proceed to the state and national contests.
Teachers and community members will judge the competition, which is scheduled to being at noon at the park located at 1650 Senter Road.
