Many bargains, food and fun for all on the sidewalks of Saratoga

The pavement in the Village will come alive June 22 for the annual Sidewalk Affaire, offering visitors good deals and plenty of fun in the sun.

Sponsored by the Saratoga Village Development Council, the event is a sidewalk sale of goods from participating businesses and deals from various restaurants and wineries in the Village. It takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Leslee Warwick, owner of the Barn Owl, for example, is offering coupons for a 25 percent discount on any item to be used on a subsequent visit. The Barn Owl is a gift store that offers “whimsical to elegant” items, said Warwick, who is co-chairing the event this year with event chairwoman Marsha Benson.

“It has been going on for at least six years,” she said. “It started out as a sidewalk sale, but we’re hoping to make it bigger.”

The event promises even those who decide to leave their wallets at home a good time. A pianist will play near the Echo Shop. A local band might also make an appearance, Warwick said.

Organizers are working hard to bring back the old historic fire engine for display. The vehicle is undergoing restoration.

The wineries may offer free tastings, and some restaurants will give out samples of their fare.

For the kids, there will be a clown with bubbles, a coloring station and possibly face painting and balloonist, Warwick said.

Among the businesses participating in the 2013 Sidewalk Affaire are Vine Life, Elizabeth Lynn Moon Original Art Jewelry and Skin Prophecy. Businesses that are participating will have balloons outside their establishments, Warwick said.

“It will be fun,” she said. “Enjoy some music hopefully and have some good food.”
