Saratogans earn college degrees, and garner dean’s list recognition

Many Saratogans are celebrating recent graduations from universities throughout California and the country, while others are basking in the glow of making the dean’s list this spring.

James Pearse earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Pearse was among nearly 2,700 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees during Georgia Tech’s 245th commencement ceremony.

Taylor Nicole Tate graduated magna cum laude from Santa Clara University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing on June 15.

Taara Rangan received an associate of arts degree from Oxford College of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., at its 168th commencement ceremony on May 11.

Brandon Montalvo graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. Montalvo earned a bachelor of science in civil engineering. He was one of nearly 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students who participated in the May 19 graduation ceremony at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

Ten Saratogans were among 6,073 students to be awarded academic degrees at Boston University in May. Among them were Sandra Hsu (doctor of medicine) and Lauren M. Gray (juris doctor in law); Phan S. Ngo (master of criminal justice) and Lisa M. Griswold (master of arts in international relations and international communication); and bachelor’s recipients Ayush Jain (biomedical engineering); Sandeep Chandrasekhar (economics, journalism); Satomi A. Ishikawa (business administration and management); Nicholas M. Pataky (business administration and management); Kyle K. Harada (biology with a specialization in neurobiology); and Weilynn C. Chang (journalism).

Two Gonzaga University students from Saratoga graduated on May 12 at Spokane’s Veterans’ Memorial Arena. The students are Richard Redford, who graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in history, and Wenyu Zhang, with a bachelor of arts degree in English.

Heather L. Ward was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at the University of Vermont. Ward is a first-year anthropology major in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Shriya Nagpal, a member of the class of 2016 at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., received faculty honors for the spring semester.

Seven students from Saratoga were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester at Washington University in St. Louis: Ryan Chang, Tiffany Lin and Aaron Joshua Rhee, all three of whom are enrolled in the university’s College of Arts & Sciences; and Sarah Elizabeth Guy, Arjay Parhar, Sanjeev Kannan Srivatsa and Jeremy Pierson Veis, who are enrolled in the university’s School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Sanjana Rao was named to the honor list of Oxford College, the two-year liberal arts division of Emory University located in Oxford, Ga., for the 2013 spring semester.

Lauren Mather, a student in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester.

Jin Ching Lim, a third-year student in the illustration program in Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, made the dean’s list for the spring quarter.

Five Saratoga residents were named to the dean’s list at Boston University for the spring semester. Students recognized for the honor include Kristen M. Bartlett, Weilynn C. Chang, Allison K. Hata, Satomi A. Ishikawa and Ivan Lee.

Wenyu Zhang earned placement on the Gonzaga University president’s list for the spring 2013 semester. Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 grade point average to be listed.

Rebecca Alberts earned a spot on the Gonzaga University dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester. Students must earn a 3.5 to 3.69 grade-point average to be listed.

Peter Auvil was named to the spring 2013 semester dean’s list at Lafayette College. To qualify for dean’s list, a student must achieve at least a 3.6 semester grade point average. Auvil is a graduate of Saratoga High School.

Maria Blanc Zoco, a sophomore in communication, was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Bryant University.
