Saratoga High School’s Indian Cultural Awareness Club is hosting an event Feb. 14-15 to raise money for charities in India.
Titled “Bombay in the Bay,” the show is the club’s main event of the year, said senior and ICAC co-president Sachi Verma. The evening features dances, singing acts and skits.
For the dance numbers alone, more than 100 students are expected to come together in various performances. There will be an all-male dance and an all-female dance and a competition between the two groups. Each grade level will perform a dance and the teachers will get their opportunity in a special teacher’s dance.
“It’s just going to be a lot of fun,” Sachi said.
Students began preparing about a month ago for Bombay in the Bay, meeting regularly before and after school to rehearse.
“The kids have put in a lot of time and effort,” Sachi said. “We’ve spent so many hours choreographing and dancing.”
This year marks the ICAC’s 13th year hosting the event, according to Sachi.
“The ultimate purpose is to donate to charities in India and give back to the community,” she said. “And it’s a really nice way to bring together the community. It helps the community here and the community in India.”
The club held fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds for the event. The goal of the ICAC, said Sachi, is to help Indian-American students connect and meet new people. The club serves to unify students at Saratoga High, Sachi said.
Bombay in the Bay will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the McAfee Center and is open to the public.
Tickets are $12 for the Friday program and $20 for the Saturday show, which also includes dinner. Samosas will be sold during intermission both evenings. Visit vendini.com/ticket-software.html?t=tix&e=d519774e9a85c8fce5dd6baa25267d2e to purchase tickets.
