Health fair in the Gateway will offer tips for enjoying the summer season

Summer is usually a time for barbecues and beach days, but both can spell trouble if one does not practice caution. A free health fair taking place June 22 in the Saratoga Gateway will offer tips to enjoy the season in the best shape possible.

Hosted by the Alameda Family Funeral and Cremation, the event is Saratoga’s first community fair with more than 20 local companies and vendors participating. The afternoon will be filled with live music, food trucks, live screenings and demonstrations from medical professionals.

Health professionals and healthcare businesses will conduct free classes, testing and free giveaways. There will also be a joint functionality testing conducted by Good Samaritan Hospital, and Gene’s Market will be giving away a basket of goodies as a door prize gift.

Other activities scheduled for the day include live music by Aly Kahn and Gretchen Vogel, line dancing demonstrations, yoga demos, blood pressure tests and chair massage. A truck with a giant screen will have a virtual golf game on site. The Chutney Mary food truck will serve fusion Indian food.

“We are hosting the health fair because quality of life is just as important as quantity of life,” said Zoe Alameda, the president and funeral director at Alameda Family Funeral and Cremation. “Everyone will be exposed to health screenings and information on a positive healthy lifestyle.”

The businesses participating in the health fair include Health Trust, bYs Life Yoga Studio, Massage Works Los Gatos and the Saratoga Area Senior Center.

There is no cost for the fair, which runs from noon to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Alameda Family Funeral and Cremation at 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road in the Saratoga Gateway. The business district has been the site of the Foodie Fun on the Run events for the past two years, and this year will offer additional activities hosted by local health care companies and healthcare companies, according to Heather Durham, a community outreach coordinator for Alameda Family Funeral and Cremation.
