The Santa Clara County Vector Control District has confirmed that adult mosquitoes collected from the cities of San Jose and Santa Clara tested positive for West Nile virus.
The detection of mosquitoes infected with WNV prompted the scheduling of two mosquito fogging treatments in the surrounding areas in an effort to prevent human cases of WNV.
Ground fogging operations were conducted in the area of Thelma and Beaumont avenues in Saratoga on Aug. 12 and Thrush and Wren drives in San Jose on Aug. 14. Additional fogging may be required if the virus is found in post-treatment samples.
The public is asked to contact SCCVCD if mosquitoes are bothering them or if they know of a potential mosquito-breeding site. For service, call 408.918.4770 or visitsccgov.org/sites/vector/Pages/service.aspx.
