Greg Medici, a finance chief at the St. Helena Unified School District, will take over as the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District’s assistant superintendent on Dec. 1.

In his new job, Medici will provide district-wide leadership and direction in managing all business services in the areas of budgeting, income projections, cash flow, purchasing and accounting, as well as provide leadership in the area of negotiations with employee groups, among other duties, according to Jane Marashian, who serves as the assistant to superintendent Bob Mistele.

He is currently the chief business officer at St. Helena Unified, a basic aid district with four schools where he has managed an operating budget of $25 million and a facilities bond budget of $60 million, knowledge that is sure to come in handy at his his new job, where he’ll manage a $99 million bond measure voters approved in June.

Prior to that, Medici worked at Napa Valley Unified as their business manager. In addition to his educational career, Medici has worked as an attorney, specializing in corporate finance and debt restructuring.

Medici was selected for his strong technical, interpersonal and communication skills, according to Mistele.

“Greg has a passion for excellence and for making a difference for schools, students and staff,” said Mistele. “He has a strong background in finance, bond projects and law–a great combination that will serve our district well. I am looking forward to having Greg as part of our district leadership team and working together.”

Medici will take over for the retiring Thomas Woodruff, the district’s assistant superintendent for the last five years.

Medici was ultimately selected after two rounds of interviews and a site visit to St. Helena upon a recommendation by a panel comprised of staff, community members and parents.
